About Alan
Alan graduated with a Second Upper Honors from the National University of Singapore. Alan started off his practice at M/s Shook Lin & Bok (in association with Allen & Overy), one of the leading law firms in Singapore before joining Commerce Exchange Group as Group Regional Counsel.
Alan is a solicitor qualified in two jurisdictions, the United Kingdom and Singapore. Alan heads the firm’s corporate and IT practice. His area of expertise is in the area of corporate finance and M&A transactions. He has had no less than 6 years of experience heading the China office of an international UK law firm and was also the in-house counsel in several MNC and established corporations.
Through his many appointments as director and advisor to these MNCs, the firm had acted in M&A and corporate restructuring matters across the Asia Pacific region. Alan also advises companies in the region, specializing in technology IT, and the media industry.
Alan’s transaction experience includes
- A case involving six high net worth individuals from Singapore and Indonesia in the restructuring of one of their syndicated loans involving a local Telco company which was necessitated by the 2009 financial crisis. This included opposing various actions commenced against them in respect of their loans.
- Advising a subsidiary of a public listed U.S. insurance company in a sale and purchase of a quasi-nationalised Thai insurance brokerage where compliance and regulatory issues pertaining to territorial rights and requisite licenses applicable for the U.S. insurer to operate transparently.
- Advising a subsidiary of a public listed U.S. Telco in the acquisition of a Singapore registered company involved in IT development and Systems Integration.
In addition to litigation, Alan has acted for various professionals and professional firms that have been involved in potential negligence actions and disciplinary proceedings.
He also currently advises various clubs and associations in Singapore, a role which requires him to advice on their constitution, rules and regulations and internal dispute resolution procedures.
